Default K70 compressor wheel failure.

My K70 with 412mins of runtime gave in yesterday. Compressor blade broke.

Well, that’s disheartening.

I think I'll put mine on the do not fly list until this is sorted out.

Pulled mine out of the plane tonight to inspect, barely a blemish to be seen on any of the blades so that’s good at least. Also noticed in one or two of these pics/comments of the broken engines, the blade with “KT” marking on t was the one that broke. My engine doesn’t have that on any of the blades. I have no idea if that’s actually relevant though.

Broken engines was alone on model or was on twin-engines model?

The latest compressor wheel just finished its endurance testing, more testing beyond interval service and other tests will be conducted in coming weeks. If all goes well, this upgrade will be available by end of February.

Thanks,
Barry

No problem Len!

Martin, I would say that the update isn't mandatory, but will be done at interval service should the engine comes in to any of the KingTech facilities. You being in Germany, please check with Jean-Marc.

Thanks,
Barry

Default Problem K70.

Good!

My plane that equips the K70 is parked waiting for the update, I will not risk the money and time invested in it, knowing that it depends where the possible stop of the turbine may come to the track or I will be left with a plane four pieces, unless the track where you are flying is an aerodrome and it is not my case.

Barry glad to hear that the update will be available shortly, I already have the ok of Vera Yang to send it to the factory but my question is as follows. Is it enough to send the turbine and Ecu alone or do you have to ship all the components?

Thank you.

Hello everyone again,

Few months ago I sent 2 engines of the Kingtech K-70G2
With manufacturer failure as presented at the beginning of the thread.
In my humble opinion, the waiting is too long.
Until this moment I have not received any reference to the schedule of solving the problem
Does anyone know if there is news about the problem?

I am very sorry !!!!
Do you seem likely to wait until the end of February
From November?
4 months of waiting without flying?
Very disappointed with the service of Kingtech

why the angry face? I was simply answering your question saying that Barry posted.
end of February seems reasonable when they are endurance testing something to try and ensure it doesn't happen anymore. If they had to redesign a compressor and prototype it, test it and then into production I dont see it as a huge deal. Many of us live in climates where 4 or more months of no flying is normal.
this kind of issue is going to cost kingtech thousands of dollars and if not corrected properly likely many customers. Would you rather they rushed it and sent your engine back only to have it happen again?

In my opinion - you are being foolish! having been through 2 destroyed engines (from another manufacturer), I'd be more than willing to wait and have it done correctly! The cost, time and aggravation of replacing an airframe makes your waiting for 4 months for a tested and vetted fix nothing ... and it costs you nothing. Losing an airframe and all it's parts cost me 2 years and a chunk of change ..... be thankful that a "true" fix is being worked out and tested to destruction.
KingTech has been nothing but above board and honest about where they are in the process, and they will be providing you your engines back thoroughly and completely repaired.

It's a public forum, if you don't want others opinions don't put up posts. You posted asking if there had been any updates. I responded to say Barry had just recently posted. You left a mad emotion at me in your response and commented asking if 4 months was excessive. So actually you did ask for opinions in your post, then continued to state you were not happy that you haven't been able to fly for 4 months. Kingtech could have easily pulled a fly eagle jets act and repaired your turbine, pretended there was no problem and sent you faulty engines back. Instead they are working on a solution, not a bandaid and you are mad. This is pretty ridiculous in my opinion which i'm entitled to whether you asked or not since it's a public forum.
kingtech is one of the leaders in turbines because they actually are trying to correct the problems when they arise. There are other engine manufactures who decided to not do that in the past and they are no longer in business. Better to keep your jet grounded for a while than have a turbine fail again and cost you the entire airplane.

just my opinion, which yes, I am allowed to have!

So you post in your humble opinion but if anyone gives their opinion it’s bad. Nice.

I have a 70. My friends and I combined have around 8. We are waiting for the update so we can buy more. But you didn’t ask my opinion but there it is anyway.

Gentlemen keep it polite or some of you are destined for the naughty step.

I think I will leave all the angry posts up for the moment as there is some useful content but no more angry retorts please.

If you feel a post is unacceptable REPORT IT.

Kingtech is working on a fix, so you have a few options.

1. Patiently wait for the fix and not have to worry about it again.

2. Just go fly the dang airplane and gamble with if the engine fails or not.

3. Buy a different engine, install it, go fly and quit complaining.

Did you pick up the phone and call Barry?

Did you pick up the phone and call Dirk?

Try those steps first.

What I know directly from Barry when I saw him at Hemet. They are working on a solution, they are doing extensive testing to make sure they don't put out a fix and put out a permanent solution instead.

Personally I would be happy I didn't get a rush job and sent something that may or may not have the same problem later so I can go on RCU and flame people without thinking first.

You will know when they know.
